I'm looking at designing some 990C based 8 channel summing boxes for a DAW setup. The question is: For the balanced inputs, I'm wanting to use a REAL transformer for the input. I've looked at the Analog Devices and "THAT Corps" balanced reciver parts. The price is right but I'm not convinced the performance is there. Neither part can come close to the CMRR of a good transformer. I'm not sure but, I've also heard rumors of distortion at low levels. The system will basically be a 4:1 stepdown transformer driving a 990 with level, insert, pan, aux sends, and solo much like the A*P*I* 8200 box.

Any comments on using the transformer? No one seems to be doing it. A*P*I* uses the 2510 (never seen one) but what type of balancing topology are they using? Anybody have a clue??

Thanks
RonL

from what I have been able to find out, API uses either a 2520 or a 2510 for debalancing the line level inputs.
