hi prodigy techies.
got a concept for you all, and i'm hoping someone can steer me right.

a phantom powered inline ribbon pre-amp.

i'm getting my first ribbon mic. i have ample gain off the console, but am thinking i'd like to run a pre-preamp directly under the ribbon mic, thus boosting the signal before it hits the snake and 50foot cable run (achieving a cleaner signal to the desk)

i'm thinking about 20dB of gain (can be a static level of gain - i'd use console pre's to adjust from there) powered by 48VDC off the console. who was it who recently built a heap of fixed-gain amps? i remember a photo of 60 or so of the little units all in a row - georgeous!

of course, the pre-pre would have to block any DC from making it into the mic itself, or ribbon go poopsie.

if you have any thoughts about this, i'd love to hear them.

seems like it should be do-able - main thing i guess is protecting the mic from the phantom voltage.

Have a go using the search function.

I think you'll find the pre-preamp has already been covered!
