I need to pick up a signal generator and was looking for suggestions. Used or new with basic operations (sine, square etc..) with a low imp. variable out. Does not need to have extensive freq range as it will mostly be used for audio band stuff.

Additionally, does anyone know if any units come with a differential output? I have been using an external box I made for this but this built in would be handy.

I might also be grabbing an addition variable dual PSU. Does anyone have any good standy models that are regularly availble on ebay (0-30V dual ideally, no extensive current needs)?

Ideally would like to spend a couple hundred (US) or less on each unit.

Thanks
Brian

I am a HUGE fan of function generators for many audio testing purposes. They offer an incredibly wide frequency sweep range, have ultra-fast settling time, and super-flat frequency response.

20-ish years ago, I built a Heathkit function generator which is my main "go to" box for many purposes. For DIY, check this out:

I haven't built it, but the circuit is essentially from the Exar app notes.

The downside of any function generator is somewhat-high THD due to the fact the sine wave is created by "bending" the inherent sawtooth waveform.

However, for MANY years every MRL test tape has been recorded using a function generator, so I'm in "good company" with my suggestion.

As for a bench power supply, sometimes these folks have decent deals:
