1176 Revision D

Ok so here I am starting to build my first 1176 clone. and everything is going on very fine exept the fact that I don't know for sure how to calibrate the Gain reduction meter. Is it necessary that i have a signal generator or can I do this on any other way. and if i need a signal generator how would I connect him to the unit. I'm still learning a lot about all those things and any help would be nice. I build many other projects but this is the first compressor that I do and really i would like him to work proper and well.

I builded 7 x 1176 (great sound)
signal generator:
0.775V on the input
between + and -?
between + and earth?
and output?
