Gents,

I got a dbx 1bx expander for $2 at Goodwill and was curious if the VCA's were suitable for a GSSL, etc?  It may be pre 202 potted vca as they are on small card pcbs with 8 pins.  The assembly num on card is 260382 and its all discrete other than an LF351N opamp.  2 BC453c's, a 2sc1583 and a 2sa798 dual transistors are the other silicon devices.  There are 2 trimpots as well as several resistors, 2 electrolytics and a ceramic cap.

Does anyone have any info on a possible compressor application for these vca cards?  Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Nathan

Hi,
it looks like the VCA in DBX 163,164.
More info you can find here:

dbx have temporarily used a small DIL module, about 1/2" by 1", but it had no opamp on it, IIRC. My understanding is, since it has an LF351, it is a module that is functionally compatible with the potted VCA and RMS modules. But I don't remember having seen a VCA or RMS self-contained module (one that does not need an external opamp to accomplish the log conversion) with a format other than the standard potted module format, although I certainly remember dbx using unpotted modules. Can you post a pic?
