From the searches I made, there's not a lot of availability of 500 Series (or 51X) Breadboard (prototyping) PCBs.

Would there be any interest in such a thing if it were nicely done, and perhaps available in a 500 series DIY kit?

There are one or two available already.  Check the 500 meta, maybe they've made it in there.

I've seen the Audiomaintenance board. I was thinking of something a bit more user friendly with busses and the like.

There's always the Vector line of proto boards.  Here's an old thread that pre-dates commercial DIY in the 500 series.

Best way to do it, then you can put whatever you want in there.

There is also this, but it's been "coming soon" forever:

Yeah, MITSOS, that's what I had in mind. A dedicated breadboard with prototyping areas and busses for various voltages and grounds.

If I knew there was interest I might be so inclined to develop one, and maybe add the faceplate as an option.

Thoughts?

Yeah it looks nice, but seems abandoned. Can't blame them, getting distressors out the door is much higher priority.  And still, the edge connector is the best idea for prototyping. Then you can put whatever you want in front of it.

Those are great along with the sled and the front panel.

I actually prototyped an Eden Mic Pre using it. (looks like it's the best performance per $ '500 pre out there!)

I'd sure try to have the conversation with the existing folks, see if they are selling enough to justify.  Otherwise it could be a cannibals feast.

FWIW, I have new style 15 pin and 18 pin proto card edge PCB's here. I just need to get them listed at the store. They are a tad smaller than Volker's original layout and green/white to try and lower the cost.

bumping this ancient thread to check in on the current state of 500 series/51x prototyping methods and supplies.  I see CAPI has some parts (the pcb male edge connector, the metal sled and blank front panels), but that's all I'm finding so far.

I've been building lots of things on simple stripboard lately, is there a reasonable way to adapt that to the 51x format?  or am I better off designing a proper PCB layout in Eagle and getting boards fabricated professionally?

Right now I'm just looking to experiment a little but might (eventually) want to put together a couple dozen modules. Any tips?

If you are building a bunch then a proper PCB is best.

For prototyping there are a few options. For simple ideas get some sort of test jig. I have one setup that gives me the required power and xlr i/o connectors. To this you can hookup perboard or a breadboard.

When designing things keep the 500 series dimensions and layout in mind. Then it is easy to add on an edge connector or transfer the design to a proper PCB.

Here are details of a development card set that I do:

I'm happy to discuss other front panel designs and other plug-in dev card designs.

The photo below is of the associated breakout card.

I am interested in learning more, but that link no longer works.  Thanks!
