PSU is done and works Great!

Used a 80VA Avel Lindburg transformer.
peterc green pre PSU PCB but used  outboard LM317k
and LM337k TO3 case regs mounted on an old
Dynaco SCA 80 heat sink.  Mounted the PCB
to the sink as well.  Fits in the end of the 500 rack
nicely.  This PSU BETTER RUN COOL    :green:

Here is the latest...

I'm working on converting Melcor AML27 cards to 500 series form factor.

It works GREAT just waiting on a front panel from FPE!!

The 500 rack is now finished (I got all the xlrs on the back at last)
I built an extender cable for testing modules.  Here is the AML27
under test.

Any of you guys interested in makeing your own modules
in 500 series form factor and Dbx 900 series as well..
It looks like Roger will be making 15 pin finger boards.

Great job Gary!!

Over at GS Wade Goeke said that the API power supply positioning is flawed because of the orientation of the toroid. He said something about the flux direction.. to be honest I didnt quite understand it but maybe something we can discuss here. This comment was made in reference to one of his customers getting oscillations in the module.
Where can I find those edge connector pcbs which you've cut & used.I need that for a 1073 racking project.

Thanks for sharing some top-drawer DIY stuff

All i can say is that this is a true DIY very well done.
I like the idea of being able to rack some other projects like the SSL9K

My main concern is the PSU, would that small psu be able to power that many cards??

I think the average draw per module should be around 150mA. He is using a 80VA transformer and the regulators are well heat sunk so I dont see an issue

shabtek

only 2 ways that i've found:

1) 3797 series 15/30 pin .156 pitch but its only 2.73" wide not 4.5".

2) 3662 series 22/44 pin .156 pitch and dremel it to size.
cut the length from 6.5" to 5.8".  Cut off the outside pins and
leave the center 15 pins but you will be .078" off center.

I have done both.... not really a wonderful solution but workable.

These guys started as unstuffed Datatronix 553 pcbs.
The inductors are Surplus(These may or may not stay
as I have some others to listen to.)  Thanks to burdij for the right
footprint AB Mod pots.  Thanks to peterc & nielsk for the inspiration and again peterc for the the idea to use switches to switch caps for multiple freqs.

3)   In the rack right now are:

     1- peter purpose 525
2-original higginsrob (handcrafted tone)312 cards set up
with JLM go betweens. one with DI
1- Melcor AML27 set up with a JML go between
     1- peterc designed 553
2- 553 built on Datatronix PCBs (I'm calling them 553d)
2- open spaces at the moment
