Hello,
I am in need of a psu that can deliver 50V at 15A for a Trident A range console.
yes, THAT console.

I have been looking around and there are few companies that provides big chunky linear PSUs, but I would like to know if there is anyone here that might have a second hand one or might be able to suggest a DIY alternative.
open to any suggestions...

Best,
Mattia.

50V is "close enough" to 48V, which is a common telecom rail standard. While I have no immediate PSU suggestions I'd look for one of those first.

JDB.
[plus several commercial PSUs allow you to trim the output voltage up or down a bit, so if the Trident is very picky you can dial in the right voltage]

1.  split the console power rails so that you can use open frame linears.
2.  SurplusSales of Nebraska has large 22.5A Lambda switchers.
3.  a DIY supply is pretty easy, especially designed around the ubiquitous 723.
4.  order an Acopian linear.

matta-

we went for option #4, the acopian.

50 volts 10 amps. I think it was just under a grand with options

it draws just under six amps. 36 inputs 24 mon modules, the 10 aux masters, etc.
this was a Cherokee board, so in the center section the summing amps, stereo line
amps, and monitor amps are 990s.  The switching/panning modules are totally passive,
even the circuit boards have been removed.  this thing did not come with any documentation,
so i don't know what was there originally.
so your mileage may vary.

for the 24 volt supply were are using an API 650A from an extra supply rack for the 1604.
that seems to work fine. had to change it out after a couple three years, but hey, they were original
caps from mid 70's, whatever.

we are very happy with the acopian. it's solid. and we got head room.

Are you sure? That doesn't sound like a common PS used by a console.

Ha!

That's not a common console!

the guys at acopian kept telling us we didn't need that much for
phantom power...

15 amps does seem a little high though...but headroom is good.

I have a lambda catalogue, have looked at the weaker JWT series. Any experiences? Sorry for OT.

For the price of that Lambda you can afford a nice box with a switch, light, test points, and mucho fans.  Those supplies have sensing lines as well which help the regulation even more.

I love surplussales.

Phantom power?
the 50VDC runs the whole console... and the phatom is derived from it... ??? ??? ???
