Hi Mikkel!
I don't have a direct fix for you , but I can tell you that i have a DR16 which i fire up once in a while when I run out of PT tracks..
Sometimes when i go to load a song , it will freeze...if u accidentally double click enter ,or anything else on the keyboard at that moment. The only solution is to switch off and on again.
Another weird thing I get is with the EBU card...I can be running a mix all day ,and everything is cool, but then the DR16 will suddenly lose sync..it won't recognise incoming timecode at all..... and the ONLY cure for that one is to take off the lid and reseat the EBU card...and off we go again. I get that a lot , especially in summer , when the room really heats up ...sure enough , next morning ,after the nightime temperature drop , i will have to reseat the card again!
Sorry to go on about all this, but it leads me to think that you should try simply 'reseating ' the drives connectors and check the scsi id swiches etc, before going in deeper....maybe you already did...I know it's elementary stuff , but I think the DR16 is more prone to that sort of thing than anything else I've ever had.

"Bad sectors" doesn't sound very promising , I'm afraid , but still try reseating that stuff

We were using a DR16 24 bit version live for almost 5 years !
Never had a problem and it was shipped quite "roughly" all over the world.
Finally had a nasty bump and it's main power board was trashed.
It was just super reliable to that point and under "stress" too, not just a static
studio device :shock:
Your problem sounds like either a bad connection or a software glitch perhaps.

I have now figured out that the Akai DR8 freezes, when the jogwheel is passing a certain position, or if its booted while the wheel is at that position.
Any ideas what the heck there is going wrong here?
I have replaced the harddrive with a 10gig Atlas disk, and its running smooth except for the jogwheel thing.

Hello, not sure if any users are still on here. I have just got my hands on a DR8 and it has no hdd inside. The previous owner knew. Nothing of this and said he used it as he sold it to me. Is there any on-board memory I am missing? (Previous owner does not seem like a shyster and is offering a refund if I need)
