I don't have a lead, but I do have a couple of quick thoughts.

If the connector the same as the later AKG & Neumann stereo mics, it should look like this....

If it does you could buy a connector and make your own, or pay someone here to make one up for you. If you're in the UK I could help.

Or get in touch with Peter Drefahl at Drefahl audio. He usually has spares etc. for these things.

(Mods - Sorry for posting an auction but it's the only picture I could find quickluy - Not my item )

Yes, Peter Drefahl is the first I would contact. Send him a picture of the connector.

I bought a 12 Pin connector like the one in the auction from him for an AKG C422 stereo mic - this is not the stock 12 pin connector for this mic, by the way, but mine must have been modified by its owner or was a special run, possibly for broadcast. Peter Drefahl first sent me the normal C422 connector, and was kind enough to exchange it for the bigger one my mic was fitted with. Hence my recommendation to send a pic.

Rossi,

Weirdly, my C422 has that connector at both the mic and the power supply, BUT with different threads at each end. I think there must have been variations in the connectors for these over time, and maybe my pattern control box and mic come from separate runs. I think it's a big shame that they don't offer this mic any more. There aren't enough high end stereo LDC mics around, IMO.

But we're talking about C24.

I bought mine used without a S42 remote unit. So I had to build something functionally similar (which took me much longer than anticipated). It also came without a cable. In order to keep costs down, I bought a 7-pin tube mic cable and changed the connector on one end. My DIY-S42 remote has a 7-pin XLR connector. I have a feeling these connectors were used to make AKG's stereo mics compatible with Neumann's SM69fet. Although I'm not 100% sure the Neumann remote supply works with the C422. In any case, my mic has 18V Zeners that are not in the service manual schematic. Of course they may have just forgotten them.

Anyway, it's intersting to see that there are more of these "mutants" around. I met Tim Campbell at last year's Musikmesse, and he had a C422 with the original connector. He said that connector is notoriously unreliable. So I guess we should be happy to have the larger, more robust tuchel connector.

Yes, too bad, AKG dropped the stereo mic line. Supposedly the later C426 was even better. You see them in one of the old ABBA videos as a dual vocal mic with the girls facing each other. Beyerdynamic had an LD stereo mic, too, but that one was discontinued quite a while ago.

Audio-Technica just released a new stereo mic based on the AT4050. Maybe there is hope for a stereo LDC renaissance.

Just for informational purposes, many years later ..
It was actually the AKG C34 that Abba used - the small diaphragm version, as mentioned in this old article:
