I have an AKG D19C and the output is very low so I took a look inside.

It looks like it must have been dropped on its nose and the voice-coil jumped out of the gap in the magnet and then collapsed on top.

I can't imagine that I could reshape the coil former  well enough to make it work so...

Can you get replacement diaphragm/voice-coil assemblies?

Can anybody repair one with this level of damage?

Thanks

You don't say where you are, but there's a fellow called Esa Tervala (either in Vienna or Switzerland, I can't remember which) who I believe knows them very well. If anyone can do it he probably can, I've read many good recommendations. He can be contacted through various fora, Google is your friend.

The big mike makers have very good Service Depts.  You can usually get replacement diaphragm/coil assemblies by return of post and pay by Credit Card.  I can't believe Harman would be so crass as to stop AKG from doing this.

Try your local AKG agent.

Replacing Diaphragm/Coil is fairly common.

Let us know how you get on.

You need to have patience and very good manual skills and good soldering techniques:)

You need to buy a cheap working old AKG D9 (or probably D7) for example and change the diaphragm or coil only.
It is a lot of work with that, but it's possible. Diaphragm changing is simpler.
This work with lot of other mikes like d12, d20, d25, d14, d36 etc.
In fact D14 (which is not so cheap on bay) share same capsule as d9 which is pretty cheap.
Diaphragm is the newer type "blue", coil is the same like in others.
Old sennheisers are much better to work with it.

Left - D9
Right - D19

Have fun :)

Those old capsules and diaphragms are not available unfortunately...

If your country's agent is not helpful, contact AKG, Vienna directly and ask again.

The oldest parts which i have found in AKG services are from the end of the 90's. I was looking for many parts for different mikes. Since AKG in the 90's starts to produce cheap and weak dynamic capsules, there will be nothing what will sound and looks similar. Even the mounting different capsule in D19 will be hard to do it.

Have you ASKED AKG, Vienna?

It's been obsolete for many years now ...

Well that's fairly definitive.  Service Depts. in traditional companies are usually very helpful and will go out of their way to suggest alternatives.  It's an important part of their good name.

Certainly at Wharfedale, the Service Dept. would sometimes come to the R&D Lab to discuss what could be used to replace a cone on a speaker nearly 50 yrs old.

Try with Audix... Simple question -  8 emails to Co-founder (half answered), 3 to the  other workers (one answered)...  3 months of waiting. Guess what, all in all i didn't get the answer...
With few other even bigger  companies  i had no luck too.
Worse are contact forms from the websites which redirect to the local distributors... From the local distributor or their service i never get any solution.
Once, when my local distributor of Marshall amps pissed me off with the stupidity and ignorance of their worker i send again same message (it was contact form from the site) with description - "please don't redirecting to the local distributor - completely unprofessional customer service" - it helps, Marshall did a great professional customer service.
