I've got a unit with a blown PT and was wondering what folks are using for a replacement.  Mercury Magnetics has a replacement, but like all of their stuff it's vastly overpriced, IMHO.  I've searched the threads but most of them seem to deal with the Abbey Road mods and there wasn't much about replacing the transformer and perhaps modding the power supply.

Sowter also do a replacement, at a price. They are excellent quality of course.

I had one custom wound here in the UK from www.chambonino.com  - He primarily deals in guitar amps but if you give him the specs he'll do pretty much any power transformer...only cost about £40 and performs bang on! If you wanted to try more local, Edcor would probably custom wind one for you and they are very reasonably priced....

I ended up going with a Hammond 269AX (didn't need the multi-tapped primary) and replaced the voltage doubler circuit with a bridge rectifier and more stages of filtering.  Got all the voltages dialed in, outfitted it with some NOS tubes, and installed some NYDave mods (input pad, balancing circuit for the 6BC8, meter adjust, and a Mallory 600-ohm, adjustable T-pad for output control).  I am very pleased by the result.

Hey Don, my team and I are attempting a remake of the altec 436c using their original schematic but are having trouble finding the proper power transformer. Do you happen to have a schematic of how you used the hammond 269ax for yours or what other transformer we could use to make the least possible changes to the original schematic? Thanks.

Thanks Don, one other question, what specs should we go by in selecting an output transformer for the 436C? We reached out to Cinemag and said they are making some similar to the original but it would take 5-6 weeks before they can ship them out. Any alternates that we could use and get quicker? Thanks in advance.
