My AMEK 9098 Compressor is faulty...

I can' t join the factory, in order to have a schematic ( Power supply...).

Does anyone have a phone contact or ... a schematic ?

Best,

Olivier

Is this the stereo reack mount unit?

-It's based on the virtual dynamics card. I've never seen a schematic for the rack mount unit, but I can scan a schematic of the VD card if that helps...

It's not an easy thing to work on though... what is the problem with it?

Keith

...eh ben..... Il me faut bien lire avant de reponder!

The power supply... Is it switch mode or linear? If it's linear then it might be possible without a schematic.

Keith

It is linear.
But the fault is serious ( I' m used to repair SSL 4000, 9000, Neve VR, 88R and all studio machines...).
It could be due to multi layer print board damage!
All regulation ICs , Diode bridges, condenser are OK and the " after transformer" fuse breake at once !!!

So I need the schematic ( I can buy it...)...

Very best,

Olivier Bolling

Check for a short on any of the rails, Its problaply a 100nF decoupling capacitor that is shorted.

Seen this on both Amek 9098EQ and on lots of their consoles.

interesting

What type .1uf 100nf cap fails tant or ceramic or ?

I have found failed tants in keyboards and some stuff built in the 70s,80s newer stuff I have seen uses ceramic or PET power supply bypass caps.

If a tant does not fail with it burning up or burning a mark on itself, it is the old find the shorted power suppply bypass cap by checking them all, what a pain.

have not worked on any consoles

It´s the ceramic ones, and yes there can be quite a few on such a unit.

A little trick can be to use another powersuply, and simply "burn out" the shorted cap.
You offcourse have to be very careful when doing this as it can result in burned components or pcb.
