I know this chassis question is asked often, but I'm stuck here...

I'm looking for a small black chassis that I can use for the PSU for Fabio's API 312 PSU. I usually order from Par-Metal, but they don't have anything small enough for the job. I went to Mouser and found many aluminum small enclosures from Hammond and Bud, but they only come in natural or grey, but I'm looking for a black chassis to match the chassis that will hold the preamps. Kinda picky, I know...

My head is swimming right now... I've seen some black PSU chassis from you mic builders out there.

Any suggestions?

Mouser does cary Hammond's line of black anodized aluminum boxes. Part no. 546-1455n1601BK for a 6x4x2" box. Other sizes available and I think maybe some other black boxes in their stock somewhere. I just know this one because I used it for my mini tube DI.

hi thanks... I was looking at that page of the catalog today but overlooked the black anodized. Something in that line will definitely suit my needs. Since you've had experience with these, can you give a few thoughts on the quality of them?

I'll probably go with the one with the aluminum sides... no plastic.

I like them. I tried black plastic sides and aluminum and prefer tha AL. It's a bit sturdier. The box is about 1/16" extruded with slots youy can slide a circuit board in. The top (bottom) slides off as well.

I made several effects devices for my son who likes noise making stuff (delay, phase delay, chorus...) and used these for prototyping. I am clumsey and can scratch the coating so that is the drawback but it sure is stronger than paint. Well worth the price.

Big problem I have had with small enclosures is how to drill the holes - as most of the small ones don't have removable front and end plates.
I ended up going down the half rack width size modules (hammond has them)
