i got an ipad recently, and the 30 pin connectors have stereo in and out on pins 3-6.  Has anyone ever ripped apart a connector so they could hook it up to a line-out device and connect some mics to the unit?  Might be a pretty cheap way to get some nice audio paired with the HD cameras these things have.

You'll go blind. Buy a breakout:

Check chatters regarding the stereo analog ins.  They said they were available on the iPhone 4 but were not, only digital.
I haven't checked the 5 yet.
It is possible to solder the connectors from Sparkfun, you just need good optics and cut unnecessary pins.  I made a conn for an old iPhone3 for use with AudioTools but it is really only AudioToys.
