Hi. I have an M-Audio DMP3 which I really like. It uses a Burr Brown INA163 opamp.

Has anyone modded a DMP3?

Are there any OpAmps that would be a good upgrade to the INA163?

:?

ehh... So, why would you wanna mod it? If you REALLY like it, use it as it is, and build yourself some DIY units from the ground up, for other options in your pallete.

The DMP3 is probably the best preamp around for the price. With just an INA163 in it, there probably isn't much potential for modification.

The INA163 (which is not an opamp) is fine. If you want to upgrade, think about the other opamps in the signal path. Or just leave it as it is, if you like the sound of the unit. While the That chips theoretically offer better performance, I doubt you'll get much of that improvement without changing other parts of the circuit. Drop-in replacement does not mean you automatically get better performance by just swapping the chips and leaving the rest as it is.

Just gut it, save the power supply (assuming +/-15 or +/-18VDC rails), and install these in its place:

If you don't see the THAT 1512 kit, click on "ThatMic" under the Kits menu at left. Great sounding preamps at a great price, and all courtesy of a fellow forum member. Details in the following thread:
