Not time to read now but looks very interesting!!

:?: :?: :?:

I don't know if I trust the writeup because the microphones are using 32mm capsules.

Where did you see the capsule size listed? i could not find it.

I have heard the Pearlman microphones are excellent.

Are the Peluso capsules any good? ...for say the G7 or a Royer mic? Just curious because there are always posts talking about how hard it is to get decent capsules. Wouldn't these be a good alternative to the MXL and Behringer mics?

Gold sputtered is not what you want. Sputtering is not as good as evaporation or e beam evaporation. I think even the stock china capsules are e beam.

I thought I had read the capsule was a JP 32mm before at the pearlman site. it not there now or maybe I read it somewhere else. I will look for it and post the link if I find it. IMO there is no way a k87 type capsule will sound like a m7 or k47

I don't believe any microphones are good untill I hear them myself Sometimes I think the web is full of deaf people or shills IMO.

EDIT found it http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=103117

hey, sorry to be off topic a bit, but ive got a burning question...

ive never seen anyone on here use an original capsule and copy the orginal schematics when they rebuilt a mic.

ive seen original ck12 capsules go on ebay for around 400$, and how hard are c12 tubes to find?

i know 400$ is alot for a cap, but say you had 300$ in trannys and a tube, then thats 700$ in a 100% c12 clone, a heck of a lot better than 7,000$.

just an idea, but maybe im missing something?

ck12 for $400.00 thats cheap if it is a working brass ring model.

No you are not missing anything. A good capsule and grill followed by good electronics is the way to go. Good electronics after a not so good capsule grillis a waste of time IMO. The capsule grill is the heart of a microphone IMO. Think of the grill as an EQ on top of the capsule.

My square microphone has a HBHO ck12 type capsule good electronics Tab-Funkenwerk iron, good ef86 tube and a interesting grill.

thanks! cleared alot up.

about the grill, i guess shape, material, thread count of the mesh, how many layers, material, ect, are all involved huh?
guess just alot of playing around to see which one sounds best.
interesting.

is there any one main factor of the grill affects the sound more than the others?

thanks.

I just rented a KHE Brauner for vox and I noted a few things. Aside from being built to the thousandth, you could almost drive a truck through the grill spacing. Maybe not, but the dual mesh had maybe a 1mm square clearance. It was pretty roomy inside the capsule chamber as well...more might be better here as the proximity of the reflective is reduced...G7 G7 G7...someday soon...

Yes indeed ;-)

I´m also of the ones who never would judge anything without having made a "test drive" myself, but if I´m to use the soundclips they have..I say that the Neuman transformer sounds the best to my ears..the cinemag does not hold up..but then again..it´s only soundclips..*S*

Kind regards

Peter

That's so funny! I actually think the Cinemag beats the **** out of the Neumann!!! :green:

Goes to show that this is indeed a subjective game. I guess that's why people buy the TLM103, why they mic guitar cabs with SM57's and why they do all that other crap I never understood.

Peace,
Al.

This is the trafo used in the AKG/Telefunken C12 tube mic.

T-14 , Here's the link to the products page. I think the original was made by haufe which is still operating out of germany , but the site is in German not English.
