Anyone tried this LCR meter?

Doesn't look like a killer-deal... pretty steep price... it looks much like a re-arranged version of some various older models...

If price is an issue you might try s/h. Got mine s/h, an Escort (... ) ELC-131D for some US$85 excl shipping IIRIC.

Cheers,

Peter

I did absolutely not understand a word of this :green:
Bu after a little research I found this escort meter:

Where did you get your's so cheap?

Thanks a bunch :guinness:

'$' is a symbol that denotes the dollar, the thing North Americans and various parts of the rest of the world use to pay.
's/h' can indicate Second Hand.
IIRIC is an abbreviation for If I Recall It Correctly, IIRIC...

It's actually more commonly written as IIRC, if I recall correctly.

JDB.
[Google has ~7.8 million hits for IIRC, versus 2600 for IIRIC. Granted, there's also the Interactive Illinois Report Card. Then again, quite a few of those hits for IIRIC appear to be generated by you  ]

Hahaha, that's funny. Don't know where I got the additional 'I' from, there's no particular reason... but you'll understand that now it becomes noticable in Google I'll be sticking to it

And how about '//' ? Don't know where I got that one from, might perhaps have made it up myself. Either way, I'd like to coin it as shorthand for 'parallel'.

Example: two speakers wired in // but with opposite polarity will counteract each other.

Bye,

Peter

I've seen // used in that meaning (parallel) quite a lot. ICBW, but IIRC it's common mathematical notation (lines in parallel, etc). There's probably a reference online for that, but ICBA to look it up.

JD "acronyms'R'us" B.

Cool to see a confirmation that at least part of my thinking is in // with other people
What's LCR actually ?

Proost,

CR

What's wrong with "||"?

Then there is this symbol, ║ described as "box drawings double vertical" in my Word table of symbols. Oddly, it seemed to spontaneously permute to a little box symbol a moment ago. Hmmmm...

BTW the site didn't automatically recognize me this AM. I admit I've got a headache but I'm not that hung over!

At least I wrote down the bizarre password I was given when this happened the last time, and it still works.

I thought maybe CLR might be used sometimes, but wiki says no. However, one of the possible meanings was for the first letters of the three last names of the authors of Introduction to Algorithms, which was a bit eerie as the book is about three feet away.

RCL is there as circuit and filter, and LRC as circuit, but no meters apparently.

You got a point there, let's see if I can come up with an after-the-fact justification of //...

... I got it, '/' is directly accessible, while '|' (pipe) requires a shift

Hmm, eerie indeed...

I guess the various sequences and how they 'stick' for a certain meaning are pretty random originally. I do associate CLR & RCL more with calculator-buttons than with circuit-stuff though, but as JDB (DJB, BDJ, ... etc) pointed out LCR has various other associations as well.
What's wrong with "||"
Sorry, you can't have that one; it's already in use as a logical OR in C.

No, that's someone else (and rather more well-known than me, too).

That guy isn't playing by the rules either, his wiki page links 'AES' to something weird I happily don't understand much of

OK, let's stick to // (or \\...) & JDB...

How's your meter quest going Hejsan ?

Har har, fine after you all joined to help me

It was a little sidetracked today as I went for a CDRTGB (closing down radio tower gear bust), most of the good stuff was already gone (Collins limiters, ASSMAN 16 track tube recorder, line amps costing the price of a new car, etc..), but at least I snaged a bunch of awesome looking knobs of gear that was to heavy to lift, small bunch of tubes

There where a couple more assman transports, but they had no amps in them... would look cool to have an assman in the studio though...

ah, all this gear looked so good, it was a shame it was so useless

Well damn. But despite not wanting to anger the gods of C, surely the vertical line pair (with generally closer spacing, as my second example) is the symbol most commonly seen* for parallel in geometrical contexts. And it is better than either of the double slashes, since is neither right- or left-leaning

Cool wiki on Bernstein. Particularly enjoyed reading about the Sieve of Atkin, the low-carb version of that of Eratosthenes

*As some people I know, who are well-known in concentric circles.

I'm shopping for a LCR meter, and they're crazy expensive over here..
Does anyone have a sound suggestion?

This one looks good, anyone know it? Is it overkill?

These are items manufactured for sale, right?

-Such items need to be listed in the WHITE market, after meeting the requirements of the white market.

You're very welcome to post there, and your item looks very interesting, but A couple of forum users have indicated that they're uncomfortable with any users getting 'free advertising' here while others do not.

With that in mind, I've edited your post.

Thanks for your understanding,

Keith

Picked up one of these for parts sorting

Works very well and is accurate for a cheap POS :) :)
