I just got some Apefunken 460s and Telenadie 1150s today. They look identical to both each other, and to that "other" mic that folks have been talking about. I traced out a schematic the best I could and I think it is correct:

Unfortunately, I am going to be out of town for the next week and can't check on it if anyone spots a potential mistake. Maybe another 460 owner can check my work if need be. Please bear with me if I stomped all over any schematic conventions. This is the first one I tried to do and was pretty much going off memory to other ones I've worked with.

Gus,

I am curious to know if you think that this one will sound any different than a 1050? Does the larger body have any acoustic effect. I don't think so, but I know that you will have a better idea about this.

Peace!

I don't know yet. I have not seen a 460 up close yet. The 1050 is 3 micron what is the 460 capsule? If the grill and capsule height measured from the metal plate are the same I would think it will be very close.

The one thing that might make a difference is that the 1050 has a short capsule to tube distance and the 460 has a long one. This "wastes" the cap of the capsule because it adds to the capsule cap but is not a part of the capsule cap that gets moved to genetrate the sound.

The 32mm capsule I have measured measure about 55pf a side a few added pf of the longer wires from capsule to tube does seem to effect the noise of the tube circuit used in 460/1050 etc...

Apex claims a 5 micron diaphragm in their manual. But it's still the Chinese 32mm capsule. I've taken one of those capsules apart and the diaphragm is not glued to the retaining ring - it is simply clamped. If you do this plan on putting on a new diaphragm. It didn't seem much different than my 6 micron diaphragms when I took it apart.

telefunken say their version (?!?) is "dual gold-sputtered 6 micron center contact capsule"

What ever happened with the

story?

No emticon could express my feelings. It is hard to believe Tele-funcken fell that far...

The schematics looks more than strange--look at the 270K cathode resistor. We have discussed it already in 1050 thread, though.

If you read down one of the posts has something about upgraded parts. I wonder where the ideas came from?

I can't actualy believe this. I hadn't heard of this untill now.

I seriously hope the upgrades are not plagiarised.

I also don't like them using the RFT brand name.

They changed a bunch of parts in the m16 microphone. Funny thing note what was not changed.

I don't know, but I wouldn't trust anymore a company that sell you a 400$ mic for 1500$ and later after people discover the whole story they offer the upgrade for free.
Shouldn't they do the upgrade before selling the mic for 1500$?

I recently swapped the capsule out of my Apex 460 for a Peluso CK12, and I hate to say it, but at least in the stock design (haven't fiddled with the design or trafo yet) I prefer the original capsule on my voice.
It has much more high-end air, making it cut through a mix. It does have a few of the typical China problems, like slightly harsh upper-mids and sibilance, but once in a mix it sounds much better. The Peluso makes good on being "natural" at least, and it sounds good on its own, but doesn't have what it takes to work with my voice to sound big and open on a dense pop mix.

So maybe there is something to be said for the original capsule. And perhaps Tele's new transformer they're putting in helps with the sibilance issues.
I will be changing the design to a G7 with a Lundahl soon though, hopefully this will change the fate of the Peluso.
