Anybody know what an Apex 215 is?

Stereo ribbon for $200???

The output level seems improbable, no graphs or patterns are offered. I'd sneer; but I have need of semi-disposable super-simple stereo mikes.

It's not stereo unfortunately, it just has two ribbons in it like some of the old Beyer ribbons.  I read about these somewhere but I can't remember if the ribbons are in series or if they are side-by-side.  I'm sure it's probably the same type of magnetized steel frame as the Apex 205/Old shiny-box and other budget chinese ribbons we see around.  That's what makes them cheap usually, no expensive ceramic/Alinco magnets and rather loose gaps between the magnetized metal and the ribbon.

The Apex 205 is rather dark but it's a pretty decent deal once you replace the tranny with something higher quality.

I've had good dealings with this fellow

Looks like a direct copy, or it might be the same mic, just branded differently from the factory..

Interesting.

Do you know how it sounds?

no idea , i assume dark like the cheaper ribbons do
claims matched ribbons , i'm leaning towards taking a chance
for trasty room mic sound

Yup. That's OEM all the way. You could wait for the next group buy and pick up an ACM-4. I'm not saying it's the same mic. I'm just saying it's the same mic.

Ribbons will be side-by-side unlike the Beyer. If I were choosing a Chinese ribbon, I'd probably try and go for one of the Royer knock-offs as the motor design is probably better in some respects.
