I'm not a big DIY guy (yet), but I've built a couple kits, and these 312's are just SO damn simple, I'm sure I can fix it... pretty sure.

What I have is an old 325 card from a console, which someone converted to a 312 and rigged for the 500 series format. It actually sounds really nice, but there is a disproportionate amount of bass regardless of what I record. Any idea what the culprit could be?

Many many thanks,
Matt

haha, sorry couldn't help but laugh :-X Your question is kinda ambiguous...could be a million of things, but lets just assume its not the mic, or anything like that, I would check wiring, maybe impedance mis-balance with the transformer (wired strangely) or maybe what your hearing is a high frequency roll off. Check caps, connections and everything against the original schematic. hey its a great way to learn!

Pictures are good as well...so people can at least see some of the components, etc...

I was hoping for a helpful rhyme, like "If you hear too much bass, your caps you must replace!" Haha, maybe next time... thanks for the leads guys.

abechap, I'll check the schematic. If I don't see anything odd, maybe I'll upload a picture, desol... It's definitely not the mic or mic cable, because it happens no matter which I use. I don't think it's a high frequency roll-off (or at least not much of one), because I still get nice, audible HF detail, just with a bloated low end. It's not anything on the back end, because different modules have lived in its lunchbox spot, used it's DAW input, etc.

radardoug, I'm familiar with a number of string peices. Seems a little OT, but I'll give it a try... is it wound metal with a little ring on the end? Could be a guitar string. Just make sure it's long enough to reach the tuner and you should be fine.

Thanks guys,
Matt
