Hi

how much has worsened Apple hardware ?

some time ago had a bit long conversation with a group of Apple Hardware users at a fair

and all they was more or less of the same opinion

"what a modern trash"

someone  tell me that still have old ppc nubus running
others , the G3 beige (ide-scsi hybrid ) that run for many hours day

totally different feedbacks for the  next series ,

many that  had  2-4  G4-MDD  death in about 6-8 years

and again G5 series a real disaster

macbook pro intel core 2 duo massacre , mainly by wrong  video card  cooling , and other issues ....

the macbook pro i5 - i7 series less but still too many troubleshooting not repairable  :-[

and not tell them of the  iPhones  :'( :'( :'(
…..how many trashed moneys

It's not black and white.

Remember the Powerbook 5300? Everything was bad in that model. But it had an extended warranty program like forever. I can remember replacing the case on ten year old PB5300's under extended warranty. Yes, even the plastic was bad.

These days, extended warranties last for two years, max. And even one week after ending it, it's a definite "No Warranty!" from Apple. A mail to Tim Cook solves that for some, but certainly not for all victims.

a friend still have some nokia about 12-14 years old

and with new 5 euro battery still run problemless as :
phone , sms ,  fm radio  , mp3 and video player  ,  photo and video camera ,
organizer , notes and call audio recorder too, …….

it also still have Apple  iPhone 1 and 2 ,  because received as present

unfortunately both are death    :'( :'(

As an Apple hardware user since 1985, I find the hardware capability is mostly outrun by the development of the software operating systems.

My Apple hardware gets subjected to construction sites and holds up reasonably well. The units are written off against tax in three years and work longer than that.

it sound like they have expiration date as for the yogurts , but not declared
as it must be

same for cars ,
…………..from about 15 years
(you pay many moneys for buy it , but car is not your , thanks to useless onboard "computer" )
…… hmmm , seem really that something do not go "properly"  ::)

whereas the programmed obsolescence is totally antithesis of real engineering

and is a big shame that it is taught at school !!!

it could be partially accepted (with reserve)
only for a part of consumer products , toys , hobby , ...

totally not for something that have to be used for professional purposes (work), ….. cars included ,

for now Apple lost US class action about some type of  battery...
and related programmed obsolescence

and some other are coming too , (fortunately)

about Apple Care insurance , it sound like a sort of declaration about broken date , i.m.h.o.

ok ,  for who need a fast laptop or desktop replacement  ,  because have to work or study with…
and avoid repair times ,
the insurance replacement option can be a support of...

but the Apple Care insurance do not cover the hard disk data content restore ,
the most important thing of..

but the hard disk onboard the factory assembled Apple computer is sold by Apple ,
then ?

same for shipping companies ,
if you pay for ship  insurance ,
they do not reply for collateral damages
and you or the person that need the item content in the ship
cannot do that have to do with it ,

having to undergo  all related troubles , like delays , lost sales , jobs list to re-organize ,  & Co.

it is serious ?

a real wonderful  (… poor minds ) world ….  " ;D "

I think apple was the best when they used RISC processors and specially made/developed all hardware themselves...a long time ago.

It seems they went to junk with intel....away from workstation quality, etc.

They had a different philosophy back then i think.

It seems many things are so much better in the beginning...better effort, better philosophy...

But the idea can't be held on to forever. Every light bulb eventually burns out.
