hello  DIYers !!!

I have a question about to add a Input transfo on my SSL9K preamp !

i have bought a NTM1 Professional studio transformer 1:1 (Mic input) :
http://www.neutrik.com/en/accessories/transformers/ntm1

But i don't know how i can integrate it on my project... because when i use a LINE level on the Input i think the transfo make distortion no ?

I have a JLM go between for a phase/48v and PAD maybe i can add the transfo after the 20db PAD when i use a LINE input ?
it's correct ?
How i can wire the ground pin ?

If i want to add an tranfo on the input i need to add an other on the Line OUT of the SSL9K for a perfect ground isolation !
i have bought the NTL1 :
http://www.neutrik.com/en/accessories/transformers/ntl1

I think i can add it directly after the Output for have a Balance OUTPUT but how i can wire it for do that correctly ?

thanks for your help

SSL9K is a transformerless microphone preamp.

Why do you want a transformer?

Why do you want to put a Line input to a Mike input?

> transfo make distortion no ?

The NTM1 is rated for about 1V signal level for low bass distortion. The output of the SSL9K preamp can exceed 10V. This transformer is not appropriate for a line out.

> 20db PAD when i use a LINE input ?

20dB is for a hot microphone.

Line signals usually need more than 20dB of padding.

Thanks you for your answers !

i want to add a transform on the input and the out because i have a ground noise on the audio signal and i don't find the solution to stop it !

the audio project is : http://groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=51894.0
It's a prototype of a channel strip SSL9k preamp SL502 eq and Dbx160 compressor

I have check all the ground wire an i don't find a solution.... i want add a transformer for completly isolate the audio wire ... !
after check the preamp and the Eq i have a little noise if i use the SSl preamp at 8/10 but when i wire the dbx160 the noise is bigger
do you have any idea ? the tranformer is not a good solution ?

thanks for your help

If you have a ground noise then you have to discover whats the culprit and fix it, you cannot do a bad build have problems and then throw in more components to see if it's possible to mask instead of really fixing it.

An  Input transformer will not solve your issue, you have to find the problem.
You have to test all the different parts of the circuit separately first, SSL9K, then  SSL EQ and DBX160, all of them have to work perfectly stand alone.
did you do that? in what unit do you have noise?

Hows your ground scheme? would bet your problem is there

what have you done to troubleshoot your unit? do you have a signal probe? did you probe it?

By your first post I can see that you are really new into diy electronics,
and seeing that you were trying to build and SSL9K into an SSLEQ and into a DBX160 was probably a litle bit too much for your knowledge and experience at the present time.
It's always better to start of with a simple circuit, like for exemple a Silicon Fuzz guitar pedal.

Read PRR post,
he explains a lot.

If you were only doing one of the 3 units alone, you would probably have tried to understand the schematic a little bit.
TIP: understand the basics of the SSL9K schematic, try to follow the signal until IC24 the last summing 5534 opamp, and then after you see it please come back and let us know why it doesn't make sense to use an input transformer and the SSL9K preamp.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand, what you wrote is quite confusing.
For the Neutrik transformer it's nice to have it, so use it in another project, case closed.

As for a Line input, that's really easy, your line input it's the input on the SSL502 EQ,  thats your line input.
So the Mic in goes into the SSL 9K MIC preamp that then goes into the SSL EQ and then into the DBX160
the Line input goes to the  SSL EQ and then into the DBX160

I'm just happy you are not doing a tube project, like Redd 47 into Pultec Eq into 176 compressor, otherwise I would be afraid you could kill yourself.

Hey ! thank you very much for your good analyse :)

I'm totaly a Noobies on the DIY for made my own unit ! but i have try  for make the prototype and now i need a pro for totaly finish because the prototype work :

http://groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=51894.40https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6WfdjwAQu8&feature=youtu.be&list=UUj7ce-6OHzNftRH6PXljZIQ

Ok i think the audio transformers is not a good option !

My ground sheme is start at 0v of the Powersupply and go to earth !

and audio patch

i have check all parts separatly and i have the impression the Huuumm noise ground after each i think it's not a problem of a Ground because when i cut it i have a realy ground noise :)

the noise is "inside" the sound directcly after the SSL9K ... i can try to folow the signal inside the ssl9k to heard when the noise start great idea !

i try to don't kill myself during the operation :)

Hi, I can help you but you need to go easy and slow, step by step!

First thing: did you check the ssl9k schematic? Do you understand why you shouldnt use an input transformer with this design?

Next:
Forget the EQ and Compressor for now, disconnect them

Test only the 9K before moving on

Ground should be like this:
IEC earth pin goes directelly to bolt on case( scratch case paint off bolt need to touch bare metal and not paint)
Xlr input and output Pin1 goes directelly to Bolt on case
Connect ov on 9k pcb to 0v on PSU, dont connect any other ground or 0v on 9K pcb only that one
Jlm case pad connects to bolt on case
Thats it

Connect voltages and audio connections to 9k, abd test it with a microphone

The sound is clean?
