Actually, it’s the opposite. Charging a bunch of cells in parallel is the no-brainer and doesn’t require a BMS. They all manage each other. It’s when you charge cells is series that you run the risk of certain cells charging faster or slower than others. I even thought about building a bank of cells in parallel to solve the charging issues and then just use a boost converter to get to 12V. Or maybe a buck/boost. I haven’t investigated that though. I’m sure the idea is riddled with an equal amount of problems.
