Some may remember the firing of US Attorney Geoffrey Berman. It was announced that Berman had resigned, Berman said he did no such thing, so Barr fired him. What did Berman do that irked Trump so much? one issue likely was this: Berman was pursuing a case to prosecute a Turkish bank that was illegally funneling billions into Iran. Why was Trump upset about this? Well, naturally, the Turkish bank has ties to Erdogan, and we all know how much Trump loves those authoritarian strongmen. Never mind that Iran has been declared Public Enemy No. 1 by Trump. Never mind that some of this money was apparently going to support Iran's nuclear program that Trump had so vehemently attacked in public.
Oh, did I mention that Trump has properties in Istanbul?
