Depends on the encoder "feel". If hey are cheap/hard to turn, then touch screen, if they are reasonable quality....encoders all day.

Im scared soon analog gear will be called Vintage!
I cant take it anymore with using a Presonus live at church...

better "feel" with a solid rotary control ,
or
with a touch screen virtual "liquid" control ?

Knobs hands down.
Don't get me wrong I'm fine with using touch screen tech for mixing but nothing dials it in better than a knob or real fader.
I've been debating building my own touch screen coffee table. From what I read its relatively affordable and not incredibly hard; the guys from some online pc mag did it for less than $500.  If all went well i would maybe build a touch screen for better VST control (i imagine it would be great for stuff from Isotope or Waves Q) but have it next to my daw controller (which sits in front of my console).
But relying on a touch screen completely is not in the cards for this fool.  I need to 'feel' what I'm doing.
