I got the capsule in the mail today. I am even more excited about it. The black ''wheel'' can be rotated, and you can pretty much get any kind of response out of it. Mid focused, flat, smiley face. Or tighten it all the way to get omni mic. It just sounds wonderful.

One nice feat is that it can easily be fitted to MXL603 type of body with a custom made ring adapter. Works just as nice with additional polarization voltage. This one came from TEAC ME80, i am not sure if the thread is the same on all of these.

Hi kingkorg ! I found a second hand pair of LEM4520 at a very cheap price but they are fed by battery... I would use them in omni mode with EM21 from micbooster...
Do you think I can use them as they are (battery) or do I must change the circuit to add a 48v ?
Best Regards

Runs entirely off the battery. The batteries are hard to find; here's some work-around info:

They were also sold as Teac,Tascam and Nakamichi mics (though it's been claimed that Nak capsules were special-spec for them). http://www.nakmics.com/nak-cm300.htm

Here's a page for modding them to phantom power: https://www.cameratim.com/electronics/nakamichi-cm300-phantom-power-mod/

Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for a much better mic that uses these Primo capsules: the Crown CM-700; they had much more sophistcated electronics and a more robust body, even though they are much smaller. They are, of course, phantom-powered.

Many don't realize that there's actually a Primo EM23 capsule under the front ring. Unscrew that ring, remove the EM23 capsule and replace with an EM21!

Thank you ! I just had a look thru Google and noticed that the Crown CM-700 may be hard to find !
I may have found a pair of Nakamichi CM-300 on ebay sold for $360 : I asked him if he accepts to ship to France (and for how much) and wait for his answer...

edit : he answered by the time I wrote my msg and accepted to ship them to me (350€ pair + shipping)
should I go on ?
just keep in mind please that I already have cardios (3 pairs) and looking for an omni pair (EM21 so)

Does the CM-300 Nak. goes under phantom 48v ? do you think 350€ (shipping included) is a good deal ?
... the seller said 30€ shipping so 330€ total price...

If you look at the links in post #182, you'll see that that they only run on batteries, and have to be modified to run off phantom power.

I just bought a pair of LEM EX 130 A with EM23 & EM21 capsules for a hundred $ (shipping included)
originaly 48v (not modified from battery)
Thanks anyway k brown ;)

What do you mean "originally 48v"? Without modification they need a betery to function.

The seller told me they run on 48v "originally" and have not been modified : if it's not the case I can do a report on the website... Wait and see...

I say again, these mics do not operate on phantom power; they need the batteries.

Did you read any of the articles I linked to?

I sure did ! but all of them are really hard to find ! except for the Nakamichi CM-300 but cost $350 at least...
You mean ALL the mics which accept EM21 & 23 are battery operating ? none of them 48v ?

ALL the mics I mentioned (except the Crown) are the SAME mic. The Tascam, Teac and Naks are rebranded Primo EMU-4520. https://www.preservationsound.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/PrimoMicrophoneCatalog.pdf

The Crown CM-700 is the only one I mentioned that is phantom powered.

Ok but my question was : if I want to use Primo EM21 & EM23 ('cause they're good capusles for the price) it's necessarily with a mic originally powered by battery ? so I get it already modified or I've got to modify it myself ?r

It does not exist a model 48v powered that accepts Primo EM without modifying it ?

ok I see now your answer about the Crown... sorry. BTW I canceled my purchase (LEM EX 130 A)
will find another solution...
Thx

so... I found a pair of LEM 4520 on second hand : do you know if one can find any substitution battery ?
some ref. are shown below...

Modding LEM4520/Nak CM300 is very well documented here https://www.cameratim.com/electronics/nakamichi-cm300-phantom-power-mod/
I did that many years ago when these mics were available from mail retailer Quelle at bargain price, under the Universum brand.
I bought about half a dozen of them. The only other mics I had were a C451 (I surely miss it) and a pair of M67.
