Hi, I bought a guitar headphone practice amp and it needs a power adapter identical to the one shown.
I don't think Ive seen one before with a 6v +\- designation. After much looking, I cant seem to find one like this so I was wondering if anyone knows where to get one or if I can use a standard 6v and just solder the (-) to ground or is there a way to modify a standard 6vt power adapter to match this ? Thanks

It appears to want bi-polar +/-6VDC.

Same as opamps eating +/-15V, only smaller.

If you can still find a 6V AC supply you can do it with a couple diodes and 2 large caps.

Hi  PRR,  I,m not familiar with bi polar circuits.. Is there much to it.?  Can I use two 3volt  adapters with  one polarity reversed ?  Thanks

You could do it with two 6V PS with the polarity reversed, or as he said, with a 6V AC and a few beans to make ±6V DC

JS

PS: you could also start with a 12V DC and split it, many options to archive what you're looking for, depending on your skills and what you can easily get.

Hi

Also if you have a straight forward fixed DC supply and want a +/- supply for op-amps etc., you can use the TLE 2426 rail splitter for low currents, this will create a sort of accurate  low impedance 'earth or 'common' rail' halfway between the DC supply. So for a DC supply of 12 volts, it gives you +/- 6 volts  Its ok for up to 60mA or so.  For more current,  I use a BUF634 to beef it up for about 150-200 mA.  Works well.

Cheers

Mike

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. so as the simplest way ..  I can just use two 6 volt 300ma adapters and reverse the polarity on one of them and feed them to a stereo plug .. correct? Thanks!

Yes , in this way you will have 12 Volt between - 6 and + 6 , ground in the middle , just like your amp want to see...
