Hey Guys;

It seems like everyone loves the Nichon and Panasonic Electrolytic.
I'm recapping some gear that mostly uses Axial lead Electrolytic.

I wish I could use Black Gates, but those too are only radial too.

Can you recommend some high quality Axial Lead electrolytics.

BC available from digikey, those are my favorite for most things. Those are really nice caps, same as what came standard with old neve and api circuits and they still sound similar to the old versions too. They make a high temp version in a white plastic tube which is great, but the standard series in the blue wrapper is the real classic sound. I suppose there is probably an esoteric difference, but Ive used those caps vertically in a circuit calling for radial leads and have used radial caps all the time in circuits laid out for axial leads, if the pads are short enough, an axial cap usually fits in just fine.

Thanks Dave, I just want to let you know that your lecture/lesson in the brewery on mic Pres was awesome!

You should swing by my studio sometime.. I'm in manhattan.

Most radials come with such long leads that you can use them in axial footprint. Just bend each lead perpendicular to the can and then bend again so it goes in the hole. Many seem to have slots in the insulation on the bottom of the can for doing just this. Make sure the height profile is low enough and stick to your favorite brand.

Sorry about that horrible description. I'm too lazy to take a pic right now.

Can anyone recommend a european source for axial caps. I have some recapping work to do, like David, and it turned out that all my usual suppliers don´t have any quality axial caps. Of corse, the cheapos are everywhere to find but that´s what I don´t want to go for.

RIFA long-life. Excellent quality. Axial types.

But in general, axial type electrolytics haven't been developed in several years, and might be considered "obsolete" in modern standards..
