capacitor rating question

When looking at capacitor AC ripple rating (in mA). Is this ripple the cap will cause, filter out, or be able to handle?

Err... Capacitor ripple rating? Never seen or heard of that!

Is there some context to this capacitor, like a PSU for example?

when I shop on farnell I see a rating of "ripple AC: 890mA @ 100Hz" for a 1000uF 25V Electrolyitc Capacitor.

The ripple rating doesn't cary muchn from manufacturer to manufacturer. only by a couple hundred mA with an average of 1000mA.
