Hi All,

I'm hoping that someone more experienced than myself might be able to help out by giving me any information on what kind of pot is shown below.

It's an EQ pot from a DJ effects unit, and you can see why the pot on the left needs replacing   The one on the right is what it should look like of course.

I've trawled Farnell and Rapid and couldn't see anything like it...

So here is the pic:

And here is the only writing on the pot.  I think it's sensible to assume that the 503B means 50k log, but that's all it tells me.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers,

Rob

It's a DJ mixer so assuming it's the same EQ control on the good pot VS the bad pot, you could measure the pot with a Dmm. Unsolder the good pot and measure  then you will know for sure.

Hi Pucho,

It's not really the value of the pot I'm concerned with.  More the manufacturer or part number or something so I can find a replacement...

Cheers,

Rob

Looks like a Panasonic; almost impossible to find since they only do OEM. In Nip terms B is Lin, which is consistent with a Tone control.
What's the brand of the mixer?

Thanks for the replies all.

It's a "Vestax FDG-1 3 band Isolator".  Really just a standalone 3 band eq to use as an add on with a DJ mixer.

It's now very obsolete and was not a popular model particularly when it was available 6 or 7 years ago...

According to international trade regulations, spare parts should be available for 10 years after final sale. Check with distributor...
But I reckon the ideal solution is to find a scrapped unit, second best is to find a similar value pot of convenient size and shaft, connect it with flying wires and mount it to the board with hot melt.

In Japanese pots B means linear and A logarithmic. In Europe it is opposite.
So, 503B is 50k linear when we talk about Alps potentiometers.

Try the Vestax UK/Europe distributor on:
01428 653117

Always best to try to get spares from the manufacturer or distributor - as you know that they will fit. With potentiometers, switches and other components there are so many variables - shaft diameter and length, PCB pin spacing etc etc.

The main man for anything relating to the brand of which you speak is Steve Hills: http://www.trusound.co.uk/

Email / call Hills - he might even have stock of spares.

To me, the pot looks similar to the Alps 9mm series sold at Farnell / RS. It may well have a custom taper though - 'isolators' are funny things and can use anti-log tapers etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I have dealt with Trusound before for replacement crossfaders so I think that's probably a good first port of call.
