Because for us young boys analog path is still a nice thing!Are there any log scaled DPOT or are all linear? of course the loading trick could be used to get a proper definition in the low side but still 8 bit would just one bit more than MIDI!!! of course in a compresor you only look for so much compression you could already know, maybe 20dB is fine and split 20dB into evenish 8 bits and you are good to go. For FF still you need to know but math are easy to know beforehand the attenuation. I guess now there should be some good enough with a few more bits which makes everything smoother in design and final result.JS
