Hi there,
i try to search but can't seem to find, for sure someone here must know.
what is the value of this capacitor coding: 6R8 ?? the full marking is MCS 6R8 6V 20%.
i'm gessing 6.8uF but i'm not sure.
Also, there is another capacitor on the board marked with the standard coding 109 D which the online calculator give: 10uF with +/-5pF tolerance. But then underneath is written 180UFXO 10DC which confuses me with 180uF/10VDC ??
Isn't the max tension usually AC current and not DC? how to "convert" from DC to AC max voltage?
I tryed to measure this capacitor with my multimeter but it doesn't give steady result, the reading on my multimeter keep fluctuating.
this is on the plug-in amp from the Studer 89Mk1 channel number 1.090.001.
i don't have schematic for this amp only the general input unit schematic from studer site.
thank you for your help.
Jon

Jon

schematic available on the 089 pdf... (also 1.090.002 and 003)

there is 5 polarized caps :
3x15uF 20 (C1 C5 C6)
1x180uF 10 (C2) think you better find  220u today
1x6,8uF (C3)

and one non polarized 6.8pF (C4)

If i remember fine it's all axial tantal (for polarized) but have to check, on my side i manly use/fix MKII modules with A101

Thanks a lot Zamproject.
i feel so stupid, i just re-checked for the 3rd time and... i found it on the PDF ::) its the Mk2 pdf with bits from Mk1 as i understand.
Still funny though that the apparently 180uF has also an 109 D marking. so confusing !!!
and also i never saw a letter "R" as a unit value on a capacitor before.
Date on the schematic says 1967! this console is certainly one very early transistor design :)

i never knew that Axial tantalum caps existed, i will use normal electrolytics to replace. also the price for axial caps is quite expensive compared to standard radial... i think i will buy a few panasonic radial and see if they fit with bending one leg and some shrinck tube...
thank you, and congrats on your console, beautiful!

de rien! je viens de voir Lutece...

So, I can't say about labelling i'm not familiar with all old component and "exotic" label, when I need info I search on the web
and I found this... http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.net/datasheet/vishay/109d.pdf
109D... a vishay series of tantalum axial caps :) maybe the same as 40 years back ??? maybe this label is not the value but a manufacturer series.

As you see MKI are 60' full discrete desk, MKII series are 70' and have some IC (LM301 in aux send amp for example), and of course A101 "hybride" op-amp, MKII stil 80% discrete.

about your recaping if it's tantal as I suspect, maybe you don't have to change it all ! better to test 1 or 2 modules with new alu lythics and compare.
It's a part of the design to use tantal over aluminium...

x89 are great desk and i'm hppy with my 289... and soon a second one will reborn !!!

Merci Zamproject,
Yes you're right, 109D must be company series number and not a value... was a bit confusing, its much easyer now with the schematic :)
its not my console BTW, it belongs to a friend i'm helping out.
cheers!
