Copicat tape echo head volume controls?

Hi, I'm trying to change my copicat from just having a switch for each of the 3 tape heads to having a switch and a volume control for each head, is there a way to do this with just pots and switches?

there was another post similar to this a while back.

all 3 play heads are summed back at the switch iirc
I got simplest results with Very large value variable resistor inline otherwise you end up defeating the other two delays too.

ah i've seen that one but some of the images are missing now, the pots i've got are 10k dual gang so i could run them in series to 20k would that be enough? and is it as simple as this? the other thread mentions a mix resistor and I'm not quite sure what that means
