My denon desoldering gun packed up today, right in the middle of a console recapping job! Grrr. The pump motor isn't working, lots of sparks and heat and funny smells. Stripped down the motor, all looks ok but the windings all measure different, one 70ohms, another 40 and the 3rd is 50.

There's not many places that sell spares for these guns, and I need a new motor now not in a couple of weeks so I'm looking for an alternative I can stick in. So where the hell do I find a 240Vac 12w motor in the UK!? 50mm long, 35mm diameter with 4mm shaft. Like the one here http://www.esdshop.eu/shop/index.php?page=vyrobok&psk=202&rozbal=8&id=2406&lang=en

That's a possibility...
Just got a quote from their distributor for replacement motors. £118.14 for a new one, 3 weeks lead time. Or £59.07 for a reconditioned one. That's a lot of money for a little motor that obviously goes bang if they have reconditioned ones in stock! Might have a go at rewinding it myself first I think....

Hair-dryers often have a motor about that size.

The few I've busted-up turn out to be DC motors with a couple of rectifiers tapped across the heating element, perhaps for hi/lo speed. Dunno just how to wire it across the line.

Be funny if it IS a generic hair-dryer motor priced at 120 clams, when you can buy whole hair-dryers for 12 clams all day long.

Haha I had a hairdryer to repair a while ago, also had a dead motor. I chucked it. The motor was wired in series with various amounts of heating elements depending on the speed setting.

I think I've got a 24Vdc motor about that size somewhere, chuck that in instead. Seems like running DC motors of the mains is a bit unreliable. I'll see what denon say, I had a little pop at them about their motor reliability issues. This is the 2nd time the motor has packed up
