Just thought I'd post my completed diy 500 rack. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you're crazy like me. There was an extensive amount of metalwork required. I used an old Vector rack I found at a local mom & pop electronics surplus store. The backplane and power supply PCB were from CAPI. All the cover panels were cut from sheets of AL and braced with AL angle stock. Front panel ears and back panel were fabbed with Frontpanelexpress. It was very rewarding build but would never do this again. The cost was just a bit under what I'd now pay for a kit or a used API VPR rack with power supply. But, I really like doing things myself and don't regret this build. Works perfectly. The only problem is these things fill up fast and then you need another one. I have two BT50's still in the box ready to be built and installed into the last of the empty slots.
