Just finished a dog of a ribbon mic. It looks like ass, but is built with love and cost and about 25 bucks in parts and cost about 45 minutes to make. I did the offset ribbon like Royer does.

No, I didn't take any.
Just taped a transformer to a piece of wood and screwed in an xlr. Used brass and bent it to make a frame for the magnets to be glued on. Used a couple pieces of wood with copper tape as the connectors for the ribbon. Hand cut the ribbon and corrugated it. That was how.
