So i have a dual Mila (12av7) built up and am wondering if what Im hearing is the aim of the design!
I have built NYD's One Bottle (6sn7) and it was lush with lots of low end.
My Mila is harsh and tinny, even compared to my apogee preamps on my convertor.
I have tried running the Mic pre into conversion at +4 and -10, as well as line level, and it has very little usable gain range.
It's more usable into mic(150ohm) input. I figured it would impedance match better at line level(600)
I am using a beyer input transformer
200:20K
And an Edcor output transformer
10K:600
All my voltages are right on the nuts. Layout is a little sloppy, but it's not really noisy. The 1/4" input though shielded, has a bit of noise.
Power supply is outboard. The pre is in a 1 space 19"rack.
I can't seem to understand or see the error in my ways as to why its sounds so Nasally and unmusical. I must have goofed.
Anyone with any insight?
All my parts are right (fingers crossed)
Thanks
