I thought a few might get a kick out of seeing this, even though it is not the standard kind of project we have on here.

It is a Dub Siren (monophonic square wave synth based on two 555 chips for those that aren't aware) that I've built for a DJ friend.  It's a super simple circuit that I breadboarded easily in a couple of hours.  It is an extremely simple project by this forum's standard, but everything except the delay circuit is breadboarded which was an interesting challenge which I hadn't really taken on before...

I've taken the project a bit further than most - integral PSU as I hate wallwarts, delay included, relay bypass of the delay and I tacked a 4017 decade counter onto the clock output of one of the LM555s so that the LED circle around the big red button moves a step with every LFO cycle - cheesy but it actually looks pretty cool in the flesh.  Everything's contained in a big aluminium Hammond case and thanks to Frank NRG for the engraving.  I went for a touch and rugged finish as it is going to be taken out and gigged - the debut performance will be at Boomtown Fair, a little UK festival which is happening next weekend.

Yeah it is an existing schematic. This site isn't where the schematic originated but it is where I got it from and there's video and pics of some finished units for inspiration :

Yes - it sounds good. And it is a cheap project too. Mine cost more as I bought a beefy case and spent a lot on components, but you could recycle the case and make the whole thing for less than £20. That would be just the siren of course. To add the delay and all the other extras would increase the price further...
