ANybody have any suggestions on good mouser/digikey parts for eluminating VU Meters?

Anybody have luck with "white" leds?
Is there such a thing as DC incandescents?

I need something for the 1176 and the ssl.

The 1176 needs to be 48V and the ssl could be 15V or 12V

The only problem with the 1176 is that I got this meter.

I guess strapping a light to the barrel might work.

So what do I look for in an incandescent that can run off dc?

Based on normal household lights, I would assume these are AC devices.

On my Trident Series 70, I removed the burnt out light in the VU meters and replaced them with blue leds. I used a resistor in-line with the led, works great.

Cool, I bet the blue is nice!

Do the leds give enough light? Compare to the bulb?

Incandescents work GREAT on DC. Car headlights. Hand flashlights/torches.

They are just resistors that glow white-hot. They are not too fussy how you heat them.

They work better on DC than on AC. On AC they flicker. 25Hz power is better for large rotating machines, but gives horrible flicker in incandescents. The common household 50/60Hz AC was picked to minimize visual flicker. We don't use AC in homes to keep incandescents happy, but to make long-distance distribution practical: high-voltage/low-current on long line, lower volts on the street, low (not very lethal) voltages inside the home.
