external power supply transformer

Hi,
I was wondering if for an external power supply for an opamp based mic preamp it is better to use a toroidal transformer or if a normal one will give same performance.

For external I don't see the need to use a toroidal, particularly for low power consumption equipment such as your mic-amp.
