Hey Pedro
I got a few on my bench, but haven't got too far yet... to busy with other projects.
Are you using the OEP tranny?? where did you get if from?? I guess they don't have a distributor here in the US.

thanks
Gil

yes,i`ll use oep,from rs components.
these tranny`s are rather cheap,at rs components:around 14 euros each.
best regards
pedro

Hey Pedro,

I remember seeing these trannies for 9 euros on Canford. I may be worth going through them. Would you be willing to buy some for me and ship it? since I can't get them here??. Of course I would send you the money first.

The OEPs are 9.50 pounds at Canford, not Euros, and that is without the mu-metal screen can. The can is another 3.40 pounds (~US$23). Newark carries them in the US and asks $27 for them.
Fabio has made a board, called FETBoy for a preamp similar to the H@ampt@ne FET pre.
I have done most of the stuffing on mine although I am not using the original circuit. I am using the 2N4393 FET instead of the 2N5457, no AC bypass capacitor on the FETs and the entire circuit runs on a single 48V supply.

speaking of the fet boy:
what kind of pot,in the schem?:log or lin?.
what kind of sound?apish?;neveish?;maybe fet boyish.
sorry for the stupid questios.
best regards
pedro

Hey Pedro,
Log pot is what you need..
and I think it just has a fet boyish sound... but will only know for sure when I hear it..
Did you double check with Canford on those trannies??
thanks
Gil

the oep`s at rs,cost 14,59 euros each,and the can costs 5,61.
total=20,20 euros.
the price at canford,it`s about the same, plus the shiping from uk to portugal.
i think it`s better to buy from rs,and faster(2 days).
if you think that it`s okay, tell me and i`ll send them to you.
off topic:
today i received stuff from digikey, and i had to pay 75 euros of ups.
i`m still out of breath, and my heart just skipped a beat.
best regards
pedro

Wow...
$75 bucks for shipping. what the heck did you ship????

I'll get back to you soon about the traffos.. Probably it will be about 2 weeks until I can order it. .

Hey Samuel,
I may have it somewhere, but I have to ask the author for permission first..
I'll get back to you on this later in the week..

take care
Gil

Hey guys!

No secrets here!

To make it clear: the FETboy is nothing more than my board to H@mptone FET micpre !!

I just did a mod here and there, but it´s the same circuit.

fabio, what are those caps in c2 and c4?they look lyke tantalus.
i put two big polyesters in mine.hope i did it correct.
best regards
pedro

Yes Pedro, , I did this one with tants. Best thing in DIY is you can do whatever you want, if it sounds right to you, it´s right!

You can fit different sized caps on C2 and C4 footprints...

cheers!

Thanks Fabio for the clarification. As I see the pics I remember them from another thread!

Has someone tried to change the darlington out to a "modified darlington" (say a 2k resistor from Q2/Q6 emitter to ground)? This arrangement tends to behave better (i.e. reagrding freq. response/speed) than the former.

Samuel
