Hi all,

I have a Sennheiser MD422 that got knocked out off it's position as a Tom mic by a wayward drummer (which would be me.....), and has never worked since. It's been sitting in my closet for a couple of years now as I never seem to have spare time to fix it.

I've attached some pics.

The tops seems to come off ok, and I can't see any broken wires or anything obvious, but getting into the rest of the mic seems a real mission.

Where do I start.? I've never tried to fix a dynamic mic before. I've built heaps of diy projects, but never repaired a dynamic mic.

Steve

The first thing is to measure with a DMM if the voice -coil + humbucking-coil reads open. That is those red and blue wires that are soldered on top of the humbucking-coil where you measure. I never opened a MD422, so I don`t know if there is a trafo between and so you had better to solder the red and blue wire off and measure again. If it then reads open, then you need to measure the humbucking-coil and voice coil separately., because they are in series. If they read ok, then measure between pins 2 and 3. Of course you can measure them first too. Makes no difference. That`s a good start.
