Trying to replace these old blue elmas with the Grayhill.

Does anyone know if the Original ELMA switches are Shorting or non-shorting?

Hi jwhmca,

I'll need to replace mine on a ISA215, which Grayhill reference did you use to replace the Elma ?

Thx.

Ahhh MAN! this was a tough one... let me put my notes together and I will write back soon.

Thanks for your reply !

I did some research last night and here's what I found out :

ELMA switches are still made (I though they were discontinued by the manufacturer) but they are very expensive and if they happen to fail again after some time they might not be the best investment... However, I looked in their datasheet and I guessed wich references are mounted I my 215 :

HPF : 4 poles / 6 positions 30° ELMA 01-2263
LPF : 4 poles / 6 positions 30° ELMA 01-2263

LF : 2 poles / 6 positions 30° ELMA 01-1263
HF : 2 poles / 6 positions 30° ELMA 01-1263

Line : 1 pole / 12 positions 30° (7 are used) ELMA 01-1123 or ELMA 01-1183
Mic : 2 poles / 12 positions 30° (11 are used) ELMA 01-2123 or ELMA 01-2183

I now have to figure out wich Grayhill switches match these !

After some research it seems like the 71 series (red and gray body) is a match, but I could use some confirmation ;)

The fun begins when you have to sort out wich Grayhill reference to use... This doc helps : http://www.grayhill.com/assets/1/7/Rotary_71.pdf

The diameter should be "A", angle "30", number of decks "01" or "02" depending on the purpose, pole per deck "1" or "2".

But I can't tell if I need a precise number of position or adjustable stops.

Anyway, here's where I am, if you find your notes it'll be great help, thanks :)

Best regards.

PS : if a moderator thinks I should open a new thread about this (ie "Focusrite ISA 215 Rotary switches replacement"), please let me know and I'm sorry I haven't.

PS 2 : sorry for my sometimes poor English, it's not my main languange... I hope I'm not too hard to read ;)

Grayhill switch number... Still wasn't perfect. I had to change the collet size and cut the spring down

Thanks man !

Did you only replace the filters switches ? The mic gain switch seems to be a single pole so I would rather go with a 71AD30-02-1-AJS for this one and go with those you mentioned for the filters but I might be wrong...

What do you mean by changing the collet size and cutting the spring down ? My English isn't so good so I don't understand this. Do you have pictures to explain ?

One last question, where did you source these ? The only place I could find them is onlinecompnents.com but they are not aviable until 8 weeks.

Thanks again for your help.

Focusrite used a custom torque setting on the switch. The amount of torque required to turn the replacement is too high, in mu opinion. You can solve this by taking the switch apart and cutting very small portions off the length of the spring inside.

The knob fits the 4mm size shaft. you will have to change the knob or change the way it clamps onto the shaft
