My G7 is up and Running. It sounds great. Thanks Gyraf .So I'll share my Parts list for the project. Here now are sources for the mic components. These components will fit on the pcb for the project although you may have to adjust the pins on some of the components.there are many options out there but this can help get you started. the 470K resistors in the mic and the 100K resistors in the mic should be matched for best results. i only listed the amount required to populate the board you may want to order more so you can find a match

THE MIC

1 L.D. capsule CEK12 and mount http://www.pelusomicrophonelab.com/capsnmnts.html
1 EF86 Pentode Vacuum Tube I had a nos telefunken but I also bought a J&J from Eurotubes for my next G7 http://www.eurotubes.com/
1 Lundahl LL1538 Mic input Transformer w.kandkaudio.com/transformers.html
1 Noval pcb tube socket http://www.tubesandmore.com/ part# P-ST9-222
1 7-pole xlr connector,male, chassis mount http://www.redco.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=104&cat=7+pin+Male+XLR+Connectors

Resistors

2 1G Mouser.com part # 588MOX 200001007JE
1 33M alliedelec.com #6480228
2 470K Mouser.com #660MF1/4DL4703F
1 100K #660-MF1/4CC1003F
2 10K
#660MF1/4CC1002F
1 1.6K #71-CCF07-J-1.6K
1 220ohm #271-220-RC

Capacitors

1 220uf/35V electrolytic I ordered Rubicon ZA from http://www.referenceaudiomods.com/ shipping was more than the 2 caps I ordered. Check gregs parts list for this project in metas
http://members.cox.net/capstanrecording/G7/G7_Parts_List.pdf

1 2.2uf/250V Polyester Mouser.com #5989-250v2.2-f

1 1uf/630V Polyester This cap is way over the required voltage rating
it works fine but is quite large. Again check gregs parts list. I got this at http://www.justradios.com/

2 100nf/200V Polyester Mouser.com #75-225p200V0.1

I ordered the 2 styoflex (polystyrene) caps on E-Bay. Again, you can use the parts sourced by greg but I believe he used polypropylene.

Since posting my parts list, I think I have used some different components through trial and error. My parts list should be used as reference only. It's not the "end all be all" parts list.

Same here. I just wanted to give diyers some more choices. A parts and source list for places other than North America would be a help to forum members. Please post if you v'e built a G7

Can anyone explain why the use of polystyrene cap is recomended? Filtering? Better stability? What are their function in the circuit? Also the same questions go for where seavote used the rubicons. Just trying to understand what using better or different ones can achieve in different places. I have read about each type but I'm not sure what their function in the circuit is. TIA

hi,
IMO, the styroflex are used here for there relatively high transparency, as they are coupling the signal right at the capsule ends. As well, the better the caps in every place in the mike, the better the sound, the better the sound will theorically be, including cathode decoupling cap (in this place, any good oscon, elna silmic, black gate or pana, etc....will do the job too, I think). I don't think THIS cap or THIS one is recomended, but good ones are necessary to achieve good performances in such a critical stage of signal treatment.

my 2 cents...
in my 2 cents english.

Hi,

good work, thanks. Have you compared Telefunken to JJ EF86? I'm very interested in knowing how their noise and sonics compare, any comments?

Miha

Thanks for your reply Laurent. I went with what you advised and got these parts;

rotation, just noticed your post now.i did compare the telefunken to to JJ ef806 and couldnt hear any major difference. it was some time ago and it was a quick comparison. im sure there was some difference but since it was nothing remarkable i didnt spend any time analyzing.gyraf mentioned somewhere that the  sound of the G7 is not greatly effected by the tube.maybe in a  different circuit the difference would be more pronounced.
marktokach, i dont recall why therubicons were used.  i've seen  rubicons  in some old higher end amplifiers so i splurged for and extra 60 cents or so. in retrospect i wouldnt bother. im sure i could have found something at mouser and had it shipped with the rest of my G7 parts
