FOR SALE garSPA-62 proto Discrete Op-Amps from my little Sphere Desk.

These guys sound Fabulous!! If you ever wanted to play with the sound of
The Eclipse this is your chance. Note that these are +/-24volt op-amps
These do require a 12pin (6x2) .156 pitch Card Edge connector. These are NOT 2520 ( 6 X 1 single row EDAC connectors will work with these )
Pinouts. All Transistors are major brand NOS.

CARD EDGE CONNECTORS NOW INCLUDED

The SPA-62s were used in the Eclipse for summing and Line amps in the Eclipse A & B
In inverting mode. Summing bus Rs were 20k.
The line amps were designed to drive a 600:600 load thru a series 470/16 cap
but the will drive a 75 ohm primary trafo with no problem.
SEE.. Sphere

In the Eclipse C they were also used for mic pres replacing the M1200 Mic-pre cards
That were used in the A & Bs.

Enclosed here is an exact reverse of the original SPA-62. Also is a layout
Of these Rev4 proto pcbs. This layout is about 99% the same as the original.

These protos are different from the original as follows otherwise they exactly
Follow the original skitz.

All Rs are 1% metal film (originals were 5% carbon film)
The cogs are now 5% Murata caps (originals were 10% ceramic)
The rail caps are now Panasonic FCs and up sized. (originals were tants)
Input coupling tants are upsized Value and voltage.

Note that the Rail tants were a problem with the original SPA-62
as they liked to short but at least the 313 bulb would light
Saving the the PSU from going down. The later SPA-62s were
Changed to upsized ALUM electros to fix this problem.

The reason why these are for sale as I am changing out all my SPA-62s for
My new Production pcb that is a cross between the SPA-62 and the SPA-62A.

Hey Gar,

I need to build a deliberately somewhat colored mix bus EQ for a friend. I have two questions.

Have you ever measured the distortion on these with an FFT? (To be clear I'm not looking to avoid, I'm looking for pleasing low order solid state distortion vibes)

What transformer did they typically drive, I'm thinking an old Reichenbach?

Never measured distortion on these only ear wise. these guys drove a Sphere 7393
1:1 600:600 was an old Reichenbach/Jensen. It was basically a JT-123-SLPC or SPC.
modern equivalent # to the 7393. Very clean transformer.
Op-amp uses a 470/16 cap on the output to drive the trafo.
