Hello all I’m Gavin from Johannesburg. I’ve been lurking around this forum for a few months and have to say there is some next level ingenuity and creativity around, it seriously inspires me!
I started in electronics (telecoms) in the 80’s and quickly moved to live events after which I moved into the ProAV integration business where I have spent almost 27 years.
My daughter is studying sound design (much to my delight) and over time we have been building a home studio environment. This has grown and we are currently converting a small shed space into a studio. Its wonderful to be dabbling in the older analog gear that I started out with and the studio side has turned into a proper rabbit hole for me
. Aside from the shed studio, we are currently working on:
- restoring an Allen & Heath GS3 console
- rebuilding a DBX 900 series chassis with 902, 903, 994, 905 cards (and possibly a new external PSU)
- building up a 500 series chassis with a bunch of DBX 580 pres
- Turning two Tama ImperialStar Toms into the coolest studio worklight ever
So hope to put my hand up with some questions, especially on PSUs, as I’m very clear that I’m just starting out on so many topics.
