Hi guys. I play on guitar and search some good guitar compressor. I will use it in send-return chain in the kombo.
Actually I see all compressors in tonepad, but I think that this compressors are not too good for me. I search something better.
At this moment I stop myself to weak joe (What) compressor and urei 1176 but I think, that urei is most usefull in studio records.

Can you help me with my choice ?
Is there anyone in this forum who make what compressor?

Or any other ideas for comressor for guitar. Actually I search FET or optical compressing. I don't like compressor with tubes :)

Thanks ;)

you can DIY an 1176. Check the forums out search and you will find in the meta's. and yes I think a very good choice for guitars. especially try plugging a guitar right into it and can use it as a distortion box.

an altec tube compressor mught be a good choice,
very popular and useful and easy and cheap to build yourself
or did you want something solid state?
later

Thanks pucho812 I see whats inside this forum about 1176

ToobieSnack I search something solidstate, not tube..
Thanks for your answer too

That 1176 giving good results for gtr, wondering whether that is meant to be pre-overdrive/amp etc or at the other side, so post-miked amp ?

Thanks

I would go for the Dynacomp or Rosscomp clone.
U can find them at www.generalguitargadgets.com

I've built both and personally I prefer the Dynacomp, which is a little more dirty....

Must admit I've once soldered a module as well, with the Dynacomp & the Armstrong Orange Squeezer(sp?) but since these are such simple & crude circuits I haven't even bothered to try them again - shame on me.

I recall that putting the Dynacomp pre-overdrive makes a nice thicker tone, but also introduces some squashing that could be nice for clean country notes but which I didn't like too much for a more overdriven tone.

Pro's & cons... - BTW, anyone tried the Aphex 1404 optical compressor perhaps ? As it seems this one doesn't have the attack-robbing.
