Hey guys,

Did a search, came up with nothing. Could I save some time/money building a Gyraf G7 by using the power supply from my MXL 9000 of would it not power it?

Thanks!!!

Kris

None of the above  :( Searched everywhere and couldn't find a schematic for the power supply. Does the schematic for the mic itself help? Will voltages of 216V and 8.62V be OK for your G7?

Schemo looks odd though, it only covers 5 pins although this mic definitely has a 7 pin cable

I'll head out to the studio tomorrow and take photos of the insides if that would help. I'll also take my multimeter and check voltages.

The G7 needs some 6V for the heater and some 120-160V for the tube and polarisation. If you want to use this supply unit, you'd need to rebuild it to get the right voltages (and for that you'll probably need the schematics). Also, you'll need to add a switch for the polarisation pattern to the box - and use a 7-pin connector to go to the mic.

...Probably easier to build a new supply....

Quick question, if I were to fashion an adaptor cable to give the correct pin-out, could I still use this power supply if I were to replace to tube with a 12AY7?

umm... better to build the g7 like you should, maybe pf86 instead of ef86.

you can prob use the psu case, 7-pin xlr's.... the xlr cable pins needs to be configured right, but should work too.

Probably. I'm assuming the G7 will sound better than my MXL 9000 anyway. Maybe I could modify the pinout of my 9000 itself to work with the G7 power supply?

This is the psu design I used with my G7  http://www.twin-x.com/groupdiy/albums/userpics/MK7_psu.JPG
