I built a functioning HB Blueface Rev D years ago and (you won't believe this) found an 1176 Blackface in the trash in NYC (it has the best trash). I opened it up and it's an HB build. This Trashface compresses accurately but has no gain. I crank in/out and can just slightly hear the kick drum passing through, but it's compressing at all stages. I opened up my Blueface and went through the units together. Exact same Avel-Lindberg transformer sold by Hairball in both units, just some minor differences on the PCB to accommodate bigger caps. Voltage in the Trashface unit is bang on, +30, -10. Then I noticed incorrect wiring on both the Trashface and my Blueface which I could use clarification around. First, on the Trashface the Trafo wiring to the On/Off switch is inverted - the brown/grey primaries are connected to the bottom terminal and the purple/blue are above it, which is contrary to the wiring diagram. Is this a problem? Then, on my Blueface I noticed that my secondaries are grouped wrong - rather than the red/orange as instructed, I have red/black feeding the CT and VU meter. Voltage on the PCB is accurate. Would appreciate clarification around the mistakes on both units and any other troubleshooting I can do on the Trashface to get some level going!
